❤️🔥 “The man who loves me must burn with it –with all his passions, without the slightest restraint or hesitation.” Focus Features / Universal has unveiled the sumptuous first official trailer for the film Sense and Sensibility, a brand new cinematic version of the iconic Jane Austen story. This has been adapted many, many times before – most notably in 1996 as Ang Lee’s Sense and Sensibility starring Kate Winslet & Emma Thompson. From director Georgia Oakley, this new take on the story of sisters is ready for release in theaters this fall (September in the UK / October in the US). From Focus Features & Working Title comes an irresistible new take Austen’s story: charming, witty, and deeply relatable story of love and sisterhood. The film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles as sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. The excellent ensemble cast includes Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Caitríona Balfe, George MacKay, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, & Fiona Shaw. “It was really important to me to feel like we’re watching a story about human beings, and we can actually feel what it was like to live in the houses that they lived in—irrespective of whether we’re talking about a moldy cottage on the edge of the sea or a huge, palatial country house,” Oakley explains. This looks quite good at first glance, a passionate adaptation of this beloved story.
Here’s the first trailer (+ posters) for Georgia Oakley’s adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, on YouTube:

Sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood must leave their Sussex estate and move in with a distant relative, facing romance & money troubles. Set in Georgian era England, Jane Austen’s classic follows wealthy Mr. Dashwood who dies leaving his second wife and three daughters in rather poor shape. The ladies move to a modest cottage where the two older daughters vie for the attention of various suitors in search of true love. Sense and Sensibility is a brand new adaptation directed by the British filmmaker Georgia Oakley, director of the acclaimed film Blue Jean previously. The screenplay is written by Diana Reid; adapted from Jane Austen’s first novel originally published in 1811. It’s produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, India Flint, Jo Wallett. Focus Features debuts Oakley’s Sense and Sensibility in the UK first starting September 25th, 2026, then in US theaters starting on October 16th in the fall. Look any good? Who wants to watch this?
