In the build-up to the release of Steven Spielberg‘s next sci-fi movie, Disclosure Day, writer David Koepp has addressed an alien conspiracy theory currently making its rounds on the internet. With some people online seemingly convinced that Spielberg will be “soft-launching” aliens with his next movie, Koepp has broken his silence on the theory.

David Koepp on if Disclosure Day is ‘soft-launching’ real aliens
In a recent interview with SFX magazine, the long-term Spielberg collaborator addressed the theory that claims the ET director has joined forces with the government and will use Disclosure Day to finally break the news of aliens’ existence to the public.
“I love that one!” Koepp said about the theory (via GamesRadar+).
“My favorite that I read was that the government was financing this film and got Steven to do it because he’s loved and trusted by the public,” he continued. “They felt that this information needed to get out, and they were soft-launching it in entertainment form so that we could handle it, because otherwise we’ll all freak out. That’s a well-worked-out internet conspiracy theory, and I love it!”
Koepp then provided a definitive answer to questions about the theory’s validity. “I will say I was never contacted by a member of the government on this,” he clarified.
Helmed by Steven Spielberg, Disclosure Day looks to provide a grounded take on how humanity would react if they learned that aliens existed, including what appears to be its own fictional conspiracy to keep the truth hidden. The highly anticipated movie features a star-studded cast, including Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, Eve Hewson, and Elizabeth Marvel, among others. The film will also feature music composed by long-time Spielberg collaborator John Williams.
The movie is currently on track to hit theaters on June 12, 2026.
