Every major death in The Boys season 5 so far

*Warning – contains major spoilers for The Boys season 5 episodes 1-5.*

We’ve now seen five episodes of The Boys season 5, with just three more instalments remaining.

Already there have been some major character deaths across the episodes, which is hardly a surprise, given that showrunner Eric Kripke has long been teasing that that would be the case.

Ahead of season 5, he told SFX Magazine: “It’s a battle, and there are going to be casualties. It would be unrealistic not to. It bums me out when you have a big, epic sci-fi show, and then at the end, it’s like, ‘Oh, everyone’s fine.’ I keep yelling at the screen, ‘Things cost things, you can’t just get away with this!’ So yes, I wouldn’t get too attached to any single character.”

But who has actually bit the dust so far? Read on for a full list of the major character deaths from The Boys season 5.

Every major death in The Boys season 5 so far

A-Train

One of the biggest deaths of the season, and indeed of the show, thus far, came in the first episode of this latest run, with Jessie T Usher’s A-Train biting the dust.

He was killed by Homelander, after avoiding running into a bystander and thus tripping over. In doing so, he proved how much he had changed from the first episode, when he ran right through Hughie’s girlfriend Robin.

Right before Homelander snapped his neck, A-Train taunted him, saying: “You’re just an empty f**king suit. Take away these powers and what are you? A pathetic, weak, snivelling f**king loser.”

Love Sausage

Love Sausage’s long-running feud with Mother’s Milk was brought to a close in the first episode of The Boys season 5, with MM engaging him in a fight at the Freedom Camp.

In the end, MM stabbed Love Sausage’s penis multiple times with a piece of broken wood, before strangling him to death with it. Quite the fitting – if utterly disgusting – ending.

Jetstreak

A new character for season 5, Jetstreak, a member of the supe team Teenage Kix, didn’t last long.

In episode 2, he and Soldier Boy chased The Boys into Rock Hard’s basement, where Frenchie then released the supe-killing virus.

Both Jetstreak and Rock Hard were killed, while Soldier Boy survived thanks to the V1 flowing through his veins, which makes him functionally immortal.

Rock Hard

Rock Hard, a supe with rock-like skin, was introduced in season 5 episode 2, and was killed in the same episode.

Like Jetstreak, he was subdued by Frenchie releasing the virus.

Maverick

Maverick – the son of Translucent, who was killed in the very second episode of The Boys – was first introduced briefly in season 2, at his father’s funeral. He then appeared in Gen V, as a student at God U.

Maverick reappeared in season 5 episode 2, where he was revealed to have been living with Stan Edgar. Edgar had led him to believe that Homelander killed his father, rather than Hughie.

Given this, he at first worked with The Boys to fend off The Deep, Black Noir, Cindy and Dogknott. However, The Deep revealed the truth to him, at which point he turned on The Boys.

In the end, he was accidentally pulverised by Cindy when she was trying to kill Hughie.

Cindy

Having proved a formidable foe for The Boys since season 2, Cindy was finally killed in season 5 episode 2 while on a mission to extract Stan Edgar with The Deep, Black Noir and Dogknott.

As Cindy was trying to kill Hughie, she accidentally killed Maverick instead. Believing Hughie had died, Annie immediately broke Cindy’s neck from behind, killing her instantly.

Quinn

In season 5 episode 4, we met Quinn, a former US soldier who underwent V1 trials along with Soldier Boy in the 1940s.

He and Soldier Boy were enemies at the time, but came face to face again in the present day, where Soldier Boy found Quinn still at Fort Harmony, growing into the walls due to his plant-like powers.

These powers were causing rage in The Boys, who were all fighting and close to killing one another, except Frenchie who was immune. In order to stop this, Frenchie convinced Soldier Boy to use his power-removing beam on Quinn, which finally killed him.

Adam Bourke

Vought Films director Adam Bourke had been a mainstay of the series, having first appeared in season 2.

In season 5 episode 5, he was seen directing a play, without realising that one of stars was actually the new Black Noir, out of his costume.

While feuding with Noir, and as revenge for Bourke cutting his improvised dialogue while filming Dawn with The Seven, The Deep sent an eel to kill Bourke. Placing it in a toilet, the eel ate its way through Bourke’s anus as he sat on the toilet, producing a particularly grisly death.

Malchemical

In season 5 episode 5, Homelander and Soldier Boy followed a new lead to find V1, venturing to LA where they met with a former member of The Seven, Mister Marathon.

He said he didn’t have the V1 himself, but that Soldier Boy’s former teammate Bombsight did, and he would call him to join them. As they waited, they found that Mister Marathon was hosting a card game at his house, attended by a host of Hollywood stars (Will Forte, Craig Robinson, Kumail Nanjiani, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Seth Rogen), along with a supe called Malchemical.

While they pretended to be helping Homelander, Malchemical knocked him out using gasses from his lungs, and tried to convince Soldier Boy to kill him.

In the end, having grown accustomed to Homelander, Soldier Boy refused, and killed Malchemical by snapping his neck.

Will Forte, Craig Robinson, Kumail Nanjiani, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Seth Rogen

While at Mister Marathon’s house for a poker game, Hollywood stars Will Forte, Kumail Nanjiani, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Seth Rogen and Craig Robinson, found themselves caught up in Soldier Boy’s fight with Mister Marathon.

As a speedster, Mister Marathon ran around his house trying to defeat Soldier Boy, but in doing so kept running through, and instantly killing, the actors.

Mister Marathon

Along with Malchemical, Mister Marathon tried to convince Soldier Boy to kill Homelander. When Soldier Boy refused, they engaged in a fight, in which Mister Marathon accidentally killed all the Hollywood stars at his house.

In the end, Soldier Boy tripped Mister Marathon up and broke both his feet off, before getting him to confirm that Bombsight did indeed have the V1.

A now-revived Homelander then stomped on Mister Marathon’s face, killing him instantly.

Firecracker

A key member of The Seven who was introduced in season 4, Firecracker had always been devoted to Homelander, but questioned her faith in him slightly when he started pushing the narrative that he was the one true god. After all, she had always been deeply religious and firm in her Christian faith.

In the end, she went along with his proposals on the matter, but it still wasn’t enough – Homelander could sense doubt in her, and had heard as much from his father Soldier Boy, who she was sleeping with.

He first attempted to fire her from The Seven, but as she pleaded with him and expressed her love for him, he decided to end their relationship in a more permanent way, pushing her head onto the wing of an angel statue.
