The grand historical drama, Raja Shivaji, released in cinemas today, May 1, and it has already grabbed attention for its ensemble cast, grand scale and tribute to one of India’s greatest warrior kings. The Marathi version has opened to an excellent response, while the Hindi version is also holding decently, which is a feat, especially given the film’s strong Maharashtrian flavour and cultural rootedness. Viewers venturing out to see the film have been in for a surprise as Ajay Devgn and Vicky Kaushal have been mentioned under ‘Special Thanks’. Many assumed that they may have a cameo in the film. However, the two powerhouse performers are not present in the film.

Bollywood Hungama has found out the reason behind their mention in the opening slate. A source told us, “Both Ajay Devgn and Vicky Kaushal shot for shoulder content videos with Riteish as part of promotions of Raja Shivaji. Riteish was keen on having them for the promotional video as they have also played the roles of Maratha warriors in the past. While Ajay Devgn immortalized Tanaji Malusare in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020), Vicky Kaushal impressed one and all in Chhaava (2025) where he was seen in the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. In Raja Shivaji, Riteish is seen in the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and hence, it made sense to have Ajay and Vicky on board.”

The source continued, “Ajay Devgn and Vicky Kaushal readily agreed to be a part of the video as they are very fond of Riteish and also because they wanted to contribute to this special film, which pays an ode to one of the greatest kings to ever live in India. Riteish and Jio Studios were quite touched by their gesture and that’s why they decided to thank the actors.”

The source also revealed, “The video featuring Ajay Devgn and Vicky Kaushal is yet to be released. It is expected to drop soon.”

Besides Riteish Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji also stars Genelia Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Fardeen Khan, Bhagyashree, Sachin Khedekar, Amole Gupte, Jitendra Joshi and others. It is produced by Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh’s Mumbai Film Company and Jyoti Deshpande’s Jio Studios.
