It’s sad news on Prime Video’s God of War front as it’s been reported that the leading role of Kratos will now be recast.

Ryan Hurst was confirmed for the pivotal part earlier this year, with the actor undergoing quite the physical transformation to play the character.
However, according to Deadline, Hurst has picked up an injury while filming for the series, tearing a bicep performing a stunt. The incident is said to have occurred in late June, with Hurst having undergone surgery already and now in recovery.
But due to the severity of the injury and the lengthy recovery time that is typically between four and six months, the difficult decision has reportedly been made to recast Kratos – even though Hurst has already shot four episodes.
Deadline says that production on God of War has been paused and remains that way for now, with a mid-October production restart now being eyed up.

But who will now take on the role of Kratos? Well, that remains to be seen but those already filmed episodes will also be reshot with the new actor.
Hurst was already an ideal fit for the role in many fans’ eyes, having played Thor in God of War: Ragnarök, a role he earned a BAFTA nomination for.
He is also known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead and The Abandons, and can currently be seen in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

As per the story of God of War, Hurst was primarily sharing scenes with on-screen son Atreus, who is being played by Callum Vinson. God of War focuses on the father and son as they set out on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye.
The series description reads: “Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”
The confirmed cast for the series includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri and Danny Woodburn as Brok.
