Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hina Hai has opened at Rs 8.65 crores. Advance booking for the film was fair and this is anyways the kind of genre where spot booking is what gets the numbers up. That’s why even though advance sales were just about fair, it all boiled down to how would the day progressed and the film was showing on screen.

The manner in which Friday morning shows started, it seemed like the film would eventually get into that Rs. 7-7.50 crores zone. However as mentioned earlier, word of mouth was going to be the key here and this is actually what transpired as well as occupancy started getting better and better with every passing show. With largely positive word kicking in, it was confirmed by the time evening shows stated that Rs. 8 crores was going to be a possibility and whatever extra comes in would be added bonus.
Yes, a double digit number would have been an icing on the cake but then as has been seen over the last couple of years, it’s increasingly difficult to get audiences in theatres on the very first day when it comes to mid-budget films like these. What matters is that there is a start and now with double digits on the cards today, it’s about how does the Varun Dhawan starrer see added momentum by the time the opening weekend is through.
