Man on Fire starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is now streaming on Netflix! The first season of the action thriller series consists of seven episodes and centers on John Creasy. Creasy is a former Special Forces mercenary who is trying to leave his violent past behind and live a more low-profile life.
However, that plan falls apart when Creasy is pulled into a dangerous situation involving a powerful network of corruption and criminal activity. It all starts when he takes on the role of protector for the teenage daughter of an old friend, after she witnesses the bombing of a luxury condominium. Creasy then finds his life rapidly spiraling back into violence as he becomes entangled in a conspiracy that reaches far deeper than he initially realizes.
After watching the entire first season, we couldn’t help but notice that it wraps up all the major storylines while still leaving the door wide open for a potential Man on Fire season 2. In this article, we’ve broken down the season 1 finale and how it clearly sets up what could come next in Creasy’s story!

How does Man on Fire season 1 end on Netflix?
The Man on Fire season 1 finale focuses heavily on Creasy’s mission for revenge against those behind the bombing of the condominium where his friend Rayburn and his family were staying in Brazil. If you recall from the first episode, the FRP were initially believed to be responsible for the attack that resulted in the deaths of Rayburn, his wife, his two sons, and many other residents.
Rayburn’s teenage daughter, Poe, survived the explosion because she was away from the condo at the time. However, she did witness the bombing and see the face of one of the guys who did it. This put a target on her back and led Creasy to become her protector.
However, later in the season, FRP leader Ferraz reveals to Creasy that the true masterminds behind the bombing were actually Brazilian President Carmo and his head of security, Soares. Additionally, CIA field agent Tappan was involved in the explosion. Why did they do it, and what were they really trying to achieve by orchestrating such a devastating attack in the first place?
Well, they orchestrated the condo bombing to help them stay in power and shape the political outcome in their favor. The presidential election was coming up, and Carmo and Soares used the attack to tighten their control and steer public opinion in their direction. Tappan joined forces with them because he believed that with Carmo still in power, it would help advance his own career and status within the CIA.
After learning all of this, Creasy then came up with a plan with his crew to take the trio down. He figured that Tappan had a “dead man’s switch,” aka a safeguard designed to automatically release incriminating evidence if anything happened to him. That incriminating evidence would expose his, Carmo’s, and Soares’s involvement in the bombing. With that in mind, Creasy believed the only way to expose the full conspiracy was to put Tappan in a position where that system would be triggered.
How? Well, he needed to eliminate him. This all went down at a local hospital in Brazil in the season 1 finale. After a couple of attempts to take Tappan down, Creasy finally does so in a room in the hospital. He fatally stabs Tappan in the leg with a scapel, which causes him to bleed out. Creasy then engages in a physical altercation with Soares elsewhere at the hospital. The fight ultimately ends with Creasy shooting Soares in the head with a gun.
While Carmo doesn’t get killed by the end of the first season like his accomplices, he does ultimately face the consequences of his actions. His dirty deeds are exposed, and the police arrest him. The Man on Fire season 1 finale then shows Creasy, Poe, and the rest of his crew moving on with their lives. But before the first season wraps up, Creasy receives a call from Director Moncrief at the CIA.
He offers Creasy a new job assignment that involves individuals he previously encountered during a mission in Mexico City. Although the details remain vague, it’s clear the assignment is tied directly to Creasy’s dark past and could pull him back into another high-risk situation. When Moncrief asks if he’s willing to take it on, Creasy doesn’t commit either way. He simply tells him to send over the information.
What could a potential Man on Fire season 2 be about?
Based on how Man on Fire season 1 wraps up, it seems likely that a potential second season could see Creasy finally face the people responsible for the murder of his entire team during an earlier mission. If you recall from the first episode of season 1, the mission that left Creasy with PTSD was the one at the Vallejo Industrial Zone in Mexico City. That’s where his entire team was ambushed and killed except him. However, we never found out who actually did it.
Our guess is that Director Moncrief has found the people responsible and needs Creasy’s help to take them out. Perhaps this is what a potential Man on Fire season 2 could be about. But this is just speculation based on how the first season concludes. In fact, we still need an official season 2 renewal from Netflix.
