A 2020 Danish Oscar-winning film starring Mads Mikkelsen is coming to Netflix early next month. It revolves around four middle-aged friends who try to experiment with how drinking alcohol every day would affect their professional and social lives.

Another Round sets Netflix streaming date in June
Another Round (Danish title: Druk) will begin streaming on Netflix from Thursday, June 4, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).
Thomas Vinterberg wrote and directed the film, while co-writing the screenplay with Tobias Lindholm. It stars Mads Mikkelsen as Martin, Thomas Bo Larsen as Tommy, Magnus Millang as Nikolaj, Lars Ranthe as Peter, and Maria Bonnevie as Anika, among others.
The film is reportedly based on Vinterberg’s play, which he had written a long time ago. Following his daughter Ida’s suggestions, he incorporated elements of Danish drinking culture into the story and adapted it into a feature, with Ida having a small part in the film. Sadly, four days into filming, Ida passed away in a car accident. The director then reworked the script to make it more “life-affirming” (via BBC).
Another Round centers on four Copenhagen high school teachers — Martin, Tommy, Peter, and Nikolaj, who find their lives boring and struggle to keep their students engaged. While celebrating Nikolaj’s 40th birthday, they come up with a plan to make their lives exciting based on a scientific theory.
According to the theory, humans can lead a happier, more creative, and more fulfilling life by consuming alcohol daily and maintaining a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.05%. To put that to the test, the four friends begin drinking small amounts of alcohol during their work hours. When the experiment actually improves their lifestyle, they decide to increase their intake, hoping for even greater results. However, things don’t work out as they imagined.
Another Round premiered at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival and was released in Denmark on September 24, 2020. Later, the independent studio Samuel Goldwyn Films bought the rights to distribute it in the United States. The film finally debuted in the US theaters on December 4, 2020, though it was a limited release. It became available on PVOD platforms two weeks later.
The film received universal acclaim. Over 200 critics have given it a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, users have rated it at a similar 90%. Furthermore, it grossed $21.6 million globally against a reported $5.7 million budget.
At the 2021 Oscars, it won the Best International Feature Film award. While Vinterberg also received a nomination for Best Director, he lost it to Chloé Zhao, who directed Nomadland.
