The second season of Mr And Mrs Smith has once again switched out its female lead.
The new season, filming on which has now begun, had previously been set to star Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) as one half of the leading duo, alongside Mark Eydelshteyn (Anora).
But according to Variety, Talia Ryder (Do Revenge), has replaced Thatcher as the female lead.
Ryder and Eydelshteyn take over from Maya Erskine and Donald Glover, who led the cast of the New York-set first season as Jane and John Smith.
Anna Ouyang Moench (Beef) has also replaced Francesca Sloane as showrunner and writer. Erskine will continue on the series as an executive producer alongside Glover.
Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, as John and Jane’s fates were left up in the air, but it was confirmed in 2024 that their stories wouldn’t be explored further, with the show continuing in an anthology format instead.
Created by Glover and Sloane, the series is loosely adapted from the 2005 film of the same name, which starred Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Plot details for season 2 are yet to be announced, but we do know that it’s relocating to Los Angeles.
The rest of the cast is yet to be announced for season 2. Season 1 featured an impressive array of guest stars includingPaul Dano, John Turturro, Michaela Coel, Sarah Paulson, Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Sharon Horgan and Ron Perlman.
Season 2 was originally scheduled to begin production at the end of 2025 but was put on a hiatus.
Ryder is best known for starring in abortion drama Never Rarely Sometimes Always, Sean Price Williams’ political coming-of-age film The Sweet East and Netflix film Do Revenge.
