Netflix just picked up an underrated Hulu comedy you totally forgot about

Each month, it’s always exciting to learn which Netflix new releases will be taking over our watch lists. Between the latest original movies and shows and the titles that the streamer acquires from elsewhere, there’s never a boring month on Netflix. There’s always something to binge-watch, something to catch up on, and something to discover for the first time.

In the past year, Netflix has added a number of fan-favorite and underrated shows from around the streaming and television landscape from past and present, with shows like La Brea, Mike & Molly, Search Party, and What I Like About You returning to our watch lists and reaching new audiences for the first time in years. That’s going to happen all over again soon with Hulu’s Shrill.

Shrill coming to Netflix in June 2026

The Hulu original comedy series Shrill will be added to Netflix on Monday, June 8, 2026. All three seasons of the series, which comprises the complete series with just 22 total episodes, are expected to drop on the streaming service at the same time. Shrill stars Emmy Award-nominated Saturday Night Live veteran Aidy Bryant in her first leading television role, and the actress also co-created and executive produced the show and wrote many episodes across three seasons.

Based on the memoir Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman by Lindy West, who also co-created the series and wrote many episodes, Shrill centers on Bryant’s character Annie Easton as she tackles a career in journalism while also navigating complicated romantic relationships and friendships. She’s also had to face criticism about her body, though it’s the one aspect of her life she’s not interested in changing.

Aside from Bryant, the main cast of the series also includes Lolly Adefope as Fran, Luka Jones as Ryan, John Cameron Mitchell as Gabe Parrish, Ian Owens as Amadi, and Patti Harrison as Ruthie. Joel Kim Booster, Beck Bennett, and Fred Armisen were among some of the show’s guest stars, while Julia Sweeney and Daniel Stern recurred throughout the series as Annie’s parents.

Shrill first made its premiere on Hulu back in March 2019 and returned annually for two more seasons, with season 2 arriving in January 2020 and the third and final season airing in May 2021. The series received mostly positive reviews from critics, holding a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes for the first season, and earned Bryant an Emmy nomination for her performance in 2021.

In March 2026, co-creator and author West wrote in her latest memoir about her experience making Shrill, and wrote that she felt “weird and invisible” as the writing time completely changed the details of her memoir to fit a different narrative for the show. Largely, West didn’t look back at her time making Shrill with much positivity, but perhaps there’s an audience that will still enjoy watching.

Even though the creator might not love the finished product looking back, fans of Aidy Bryant from her work on SNL will surely love either watching the series for the first time or having a new streaming service to check it out on. Regardless, it’s sure to be one of the top titles coming to Netflix in June!
