“What can I say that I have not said before?” Pieshake Pictures has debuted an official trailer for a biopic documentary called Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World, examining the life and words and wisdom of the great poet Mary Oliver. She passed away in 2019 (at the age of 83) but her words will live on forever. “If poetry had a pop icon, Mary Oliver would be it. Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World considers the poet’s long lifetime of work in context.” Celebrate the life and career of Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Mary Oliver. Shaped by a solitary childhood and rising literary fame, Oliver published more than 30 collections of poetry and essays on nature, beauty, and the journey towards love. Notable voices like Stephen Colbert, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Buscemi, Lucy Dacus and more share how Oliver’s work resonates today. Mary loved Cape Cod and spend most of her years living in New England. Following its festival & theatrical run, the film screens on the PBS series American Masters in late summer 2026. This looks like an especially unique, emotional, and honest doc about her life & her struggles, along with her beautiful poetry.

Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World is directed by doc producer / filmmaker Sasha Waters, also of This American Gothic, Chekhov for Children, Garry Winogrand: All Things are Photographable, and “American Masters” episodes previously. It’s also produced by Sasha Waters; and executive produced by Michael Kantor. This first premiered at the 2025 True/False Film Festival last year. Pieshake Pictures will debut Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World on PBS nationwide on August 25th, 2026 coming up.
