Nine seasons in, Rick and Morty has begun to revisit a number of fan-favourite storylines, as seen just recently in the latest premiere which revolved around Evil Morty.

One character who fans have been waiting extra patiently for though is Morty’s dog Snowball who first appeared all the way back in the second episode of Rick and Morty ever, 2013’s “Lawnmower Dog”.
Snuffles, as he was once known, started out as an ordinary dog until Rick engineered a device that increased his intelligence. With this newfound intellect, Snuffles renamed himself Snowball and kickstarted a canine revolution that was only solved when Rick gave him and the other dogs their own world to play in.
The voice behind Snowball, Rob Paulsen, told Inverse a few years back that he’d love to reprise this role, saying show creator “Justin [Roiland] can call me anytime any day”.
It seems that day has finally come now that Snowball has suddenly made a surprise return in the latest episode of Rick and Morty, 13 years after making his debut.

In the new episode, titled “Jer Bud”, Snowball has planned a reunion with his former master, showing Morty around the world he now rules.
But when Morty realises the dogs are treating humanoid creatures like pets, he ends up leading a rebellion against Snowball, even though he doesn’t actually want to.
As far back as 2017, Roiland singled Snowball out to The Daily Beast as the one character he’d really love to bring back.

“I mean we have a ton of seeds that we’ve planted that we could come back to. There’s a bunch that I would do something with, but the one that I would really love to think about more is Snowball. I feel like that could potentially be really cool,” he said.
And he was right to say it. This episode was one of the season’s biggest highlights so far, and it was made extra special thanks to the return of everyone’s favourite robot-riding canine.
Will it take another 13 years for Snowball to reappear? Let’s hope not, because that’s a very long time in dog years.
