After a lengthy development process, Amazon MGM Studios has finally greenlit its Robocop TV series.
The new eight-part series will come from showrunner Peter Ocko (Lodge 49) and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, and premiere exclusively on Prime Video.
It will share the same premise as the original 1987 Robocop film, which was helmed by Paul Verhoeven and told the tale of a crime-ridden Detroit where the consciousness of a fatally injured police officer is implanted into a robot, and was hailed as a satire of capitalism.
The project was first revealed to be in development back in 2023 following Amazon’s acquisition of MGM, with the series starting to shape up the following year when Ocko came on board as writer, executive producer and showrunner alongside James Wan as executive producer.
Also serving as executive producers are Michael Clear and Rob Hackett.
Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, co-creators and co-writers of the original film, also join the list of executive producers for the show.

He added: “With Peter’s distinctive vision and bold approach to storytelling, and alongside Ed and our partners at Amazon MGM Studios, we’re working to honor what made the original iconic and highlight its relevancy in this modern, tech-driven world, while building something unmistakably new for a global audience.”
The RoboCop franchise began in 1987 and was followed by a sequel in 1990, as well as a third movie in 1993.
The franchise expanded in 2014 with a reimagining of the 1987 classic in the form of a new movie directed by José Padilha, and there have been multiple RoboCop TV shows to date as well, including two animated versions, as well as over 15 standalone video games.
