Kate Hudson’s back on the court as Isla Gordon in Running Point season 2, and she’s continuing to jump through all kinds of hoops to make the Los Angeles Waves basketball team a success. The end of the first season found Isla settling into her role as president after making it to the playoffs, but her brother Cam also revealed his secret intention to steal his jon back from Isla.
Between more family strife, an unexpected feud with her best friend, and complicated personal life problems that add an extra prong to her love triangle, Isla’s stress only mounts in Running Point season 2. But if Running Point season 3 happens, the season 2 finale twist sets up another battle on the court that the Waves never could have seen coming. Let’s break down the season’s ending.

How Isla wins the war against Cam in Running Point season 2
When Running Point season 2 begins, Cam arrives back in the Waves office and settles back much to Isla and Ali’s frustration. Still, Isla maintains her calm and cool to accomodate her brother, even though his frequent and thinly veiled attempts to overrule her as the team’s president at every turn are always grating and cause her more stress than she’s already under.
But Isla soon becomes aware of the fact that Cam’s looking to overtake her as president and take over the role, which he lays out in no uncertain terms before the season 2 finale. He looks to move some ownership shares of the team around in order to push Isla out and take control of the team. However, Jackie records Cam admitting to manipulating his sobriety tests.
Isla uses this information to not only outsmart him but also remove him from the Los Angeles Waves organization. He’s breached the family’s trust by not only blackmailing Jackie but also implicating Sandy in an embezzlement scheme. Cam’s officially gone and the Waves win the championship, which seemingly leads them to better days ahead. But not so fast…
Will Isla take on Cam and Jay in Running Point season 3?
When Isla and the rest of the crew wake up in her house the morning after the championship win hungover out of their minds, Jackie arrives with coffee and an urgent warning to turn on the television. Isla turns on the news to find Cam and Al Fleischman announcing the revival of the Los Angeles Industry basketball team to directly compete with the waves.
As if Cam and Al teaming up to battle Isla on the court isn’t enough, they have recruited Jay as the head coach and part owner. All round, it’s a direct attack on Isla. Jay and Isla had finally taken the plunge and started dating each other in secret following her break up with Lev. But she opted to focus on the championship game, which the Waves were playing against Jay’s Boston team.
Jay took Isla’s choice as competition and combined with her pulling out all the stops to win, Jay was clearly hurt that she chose the game over him (a common theme in her relationships). There’s no going back from this one, though, as Jay has teamed up with the one person who really betrayed Isla. But she could possibly find herself a new love interest in Scott Speedman’s Luke McShay.
Running Point season 2 also ends with a number of other developments, including Ali and Ness seemingly getting closer in a possibly romantic capacity, Jackie joining the European scouting trip, and Marcus Winfield apparently sustaining a career-ending injury to his Achilles’. Some big changes and major rivalries are in store for Running Point season 3, if it’s renewed by Netflix!
