Russell T Davies’s acclaimed new LGBTQ+ drama Tip Toe is heading to Starz in the US and Canada.

The suburban thriller, which premiered on Channel 4 in the UK back in May, stars Alan Cumming and David Morrissey as neighbours at war, exploring the resurgence of homophobia and transphobia in today’s society.
Cumming plays Leo, a bar owner on Canal Street, while Morrissey stars as Clive, an electrician, with the pair going from amicable neighbours to deadly enemies as “words become weapons” and “opinions become radicalised”.
The series was met with widespread critical acclaim following its premiere, with Radio Times’s own review calling it “an urgent, state-of-the-nation drama”.
It will air on Starz later this year.
“Russell T Davies has created a gripping and deeply affecting series that speaks directly to the cultural tensions and anxieties shaping modern life,” said Alison Hoffman, President, STARZ Networks.
She added: “It’s exactly the type of daring and original storytelling that we’re dedicated and proud to champion at Starz.”

“It’s my great delight to return to Starz after many years,” added Davies. “Tip Toe’s launch in the U.K. has shown that audiences are hungry for strong, bold, opinionated material – and that’s a perfect fit for Starz!”
Davies previously revealed his dream US star for a stateside version of the drama.
Speaking to Deadline about his choice of lead, he said: “There are actors like Matt Bomer, who has always said he has wanted to work with me.”
He continued: “Frankly, if he wants to make the American Tip Toe I’d sell it to him for 10 pence. This [radicalisation] is happening worldwide and it’s happening with every minority group to a vast extent, and it’s speeding up.”

Of course, Bomer has played multiple LGBTQ+ characters over the years, having starred in 2023’s Fellow Travelers, a McCarthy-era romance between two men, Netflix film adaptation The Boys, in which he played Donald, and the DC series Doom Patrol, in which he starred as gay superhero Larry Trainor.
Alongside Morrissey and Cumming, Tip Toe also stars Pooky Quesnel (Moonflower Murders) as Clive’s wife Marie, and Jackson Connor (Masters of the Air) and Joseph Evans (The Map That Leads To You) as their sons, George and Saul.
Also starring are Elizabeth Berrington (Frauds), Iz Hesketh (Renegade Nell), Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Wednesday), Paul Rhys (Saltburn), Charlie Condou (Doctor Who), Denise Welch (Waterloo Road) and theatre actor Shakeel Kimotho.
