Saif Ali Khan is gearing up for the release of Kartavya, an upcoming Netflix crime drama that sees the actor return to a gritty, rooted avatar. Known for taking on layered characters across genres, Saif will be seen playing a conflicted police officer struggling between his professional responsibilities and personal conscience in the film directed by Pulkit.

Saif Ali Khan opens up about mastering Haryanvi accent for Kartavya: “It definitely took time and a lot of practice”
The recently released trailer generated considerable attention online, with audiences praising both Saif’s intense screen presence and his convincing Haryanvi dialect. Social media users particularly highlighted how the accent added authenticity and emotional depth to the character, making it one of the major talking points surrounding the film.
Speaking about the preparation that went into perfecting the dialect, Saif admitted that mastering the accent proved to be one of the most challenging aspects of the role. “Getting the dialect right was probably the trickiest part because it is not just about learning lines, it is about understanding the culture and the nuances behind the words. Every accent carries a certain identity and honesty and that was important for me to capture,” said the actor.
Saif further explained that the process involved continuous practice and immersion in the language patterns to make the performance feel natural on screen. “It definitely took time and a lot of practice. I kept reading, listening, repeating lines constantly and slowly it started feeling more natural. I still feel like there is always room to improve but Pulkit was very happy with where we reached. Honestly, with enough practice, accents become much easier and I think I can pull off a fairly convincing Haryanvi accent now,” he added.
Produced by Gauri Khan under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment, Kartavya also stars Rasika Dugal in a pivotal role. The film is expected to explore themes of morality, duty, and personal conflict against a gritty crime-drama backdrop.
The project marks another significant addition to Saif Ali Khan’s expanding slate of OTT and theatrical ventures. Over the years, the actor has received appreciation for performances in layered, morally complex roles, particularly in films and series rooted in realism and regional settings.
Apart from Kartavya, Saif also has an eventful year ahead with projects including Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan, as well as the upcoming OTT series Hum Hindustani, marking another return to the digital space for the actor.
