Slow Horses star Gary Oldman is set to receive the 2026 Global Icon Award at the final Edinburgh TV Festival.
The actor, who plays the uncouth but effective Jackson Lamb in the Apple TV series, said in a statement that being given the award is “enormously flattering”.
Oldman will receive the honour at this year’s festival, which will take place from 25 to 28 August and mark the last time the event will be held in the Scottish capital.
Oldman said: “My heartfelt thanks to the Edinburgh TV Festival for this generous honour. To receive an award bearing the title Global Icon is both enormously flattering and faintly alarming!
“In all seriousness, I am touched by this generosity and thankful to all those whose creativity, trust and collaboration have shaped my journey. My warmest thanks to the festival, and I very much look forward to being with you in Edinburgh.”
The actor has enjoyed a successful career on the big screen, starring in major films including Mank, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Oppenheimer.
He is also known for playing Sirius Black in the Harry Potter film series and James Gordon in The Dark Knight trilogy.
The star has been Oscar nominated three times, and won best actor in 2018 for playing Sir Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.
In recent years, Oldman has transitioned to television, and has appeared in five seasons of the Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning spy drama Slow Horses.
As well as receiving the award at the event, Oldman will also sit down with TV presenter Edith Bowman for a conversation on season 6 of Slow Horses and other highlights from his career.
The announcement comes after it was confirmed earlier this week that the Edinburgh TV Festival – which has been held in the Scottish capital for half a century – will relocate to Manchester in 2027.
The decision follows a competitive bidding process fought between numerous British cities.
The Festival organisers said that the relocation would make it cheaper to run and easier to attend.
