Hit spy drama Slow Horses, and one of the most reliably annual series which is ongoing today, is returning for its sixth season soon, and we’ve just got a new set of first-look images.

Alongside the release of the images, it has also been confirmed just when the new season will air, with the first episode of season 6 debuting on Wednesday 16 September. Further episodes will then be released weekly, until the finale drops on 21 October.
The new images show us new looks at Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb, Jack Lowden’s River Cartwright, Kristin Scott Thomas’s Diana Taverner, Aimee-Ffion Edwards’s Shirley Dander, Tom Brooke’s JK Coe and Christopher Chung’s Roddy Ho, as well as introducing us to Lenny Rush’s new character.
Season 6 will also feature the returns of Saskia Reeves as Catherine Standish, Samuel West as Peter Judd, Ruth Bradley as Emma Flyte and Jonathan Pryce as David Cartwright.

Meanwhile, Rosalind Eleazar will be returning as Louisa Guy, after she left the Slough House team in the first episode of season 5, and Joanna Scanlan and Hugo Weaving will be back as their season 4 characters Moira Tregorian and Frank Harkness, having been absent in season 5.

Season 6 is the first run of the show to be based on two of Mick Herron’s books, with Joe Country and Slough House both being adapted. It is also the first to be showrun by Gaby Chiappe, taking over for Will Smith, who acted as showrunner for seasons 1 to 5.

The synopsis for season 6 says that it sees “the Slow Horses on the run as Diana Taverner embroils them all in a fatally high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge”.

Last month, Chung said that season 6 might have “a slightly different flavour” due to the change in showrunner, but added that “I think every season has a slightly different flavour, so I don’t think the fans will be disappointed.”

Slow Horses has already been renewed for a seventh season based on Herron’s eighth book, Bad Actors. This would just leave one of Herron’s mainline Slough House novels, Clown Town, left to be adapted, although the book series is very much ongoing and further novels will no doubt be released in due course.
Slow Horses is available to stream on Apple TV. Season 6 will be released from 16 September. Start your seven day free Apple TV trial.
