‘Are you ready for him?’
Son of Sara is a horror film about a pregnant woman who begins experiencing disturbing visions, compulsive urges, and increasingly sinister events surrounding her unborn child. It leads to an awkward family gathering gradually descends into a nightmarish confrontation involving demonic forces and a shocking family secret.
The film blends supernatural horror, occult themes, body horror, and dark satire, drawing comparisons to Rosemary’s Baby.
The movie was written, directed and co-produced by Houston Bone.
Plot [contains spoilers]:
Sara is happily living with her girlfriend Carol while expecting a child. However, she is plagued by disturbing dreams, violent impulses, and visions that suggest something is wrong with her pregnancy. At the same time, Troy—the biological father of the unborn child—returns after a long absence and persuades Sara to meet his family.
Against Carol’s wishes, Sara accompanies Troy to his family’s remote estate outside Toronto. Initially, the gathering seems merely uncomfortable, but Sara quickly notices bizarre behaviour among Troy’s relatives. Strange rituals, cryptic conversations, and increasingly threatening incidents suggest that the family is concealing a dark secret.
As the evening progresses, Sara discovers that Troy’s family is involved in a satanic cult and believes her unborn child is destined to play a crucial role in their demonic plans. The dinner party spirals into chaos as cult members reveal their true intentions. Sara and Carol find themselves trapped in the estate while occult ceremonies and supernatural manifestations intensify around them.
The final act erupts into graphic violence and supernatural horror. Sara must fight for survival while confronting the horrifying truth about her pregnancy and Troy’s lineage. The film culminates in a bloody showdown involving demonic forces, cultists, and a desperate attempt to prevent the birth of something monstrous. The ending leaves several questions unresolved, reflecting the “Volume 1” subtitle and suggesting a larger story may follow in future instalments…
