Tom Holland swings back into theaters this July with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and director Destin Daniel Cretton has now shared exclusive script pages that reveal the opening fight scene. Following the events of No Way Home, Peter Parker exists in a world where no one remembers him. The opening scenes establish a hero stripped of his support system, operating on instinct and limited resources.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day script reveals key details of opening fight
The first Spider-Man: Brand New Day fight sequence comes nine months after Peter moved into a new apartment alone and is struggling with various issues, according to three pages of the script, shared by the director with Entertainment Weekly. The script pages, describing how he is surviving now after the blip, feature Peter reading his letter to MJ, explaining it in a voiceover. Soon after, it cuts to him sitting upside down on a steel beam above New York City. His phone’s police scanner alerts him that a SWAT team is headed to an incident. The script then triggers the action, “He pulls his mask down, letting himself fall off the edge. He webs and swings away as music starts to play and we…BEGIN MONTAGE.”
The sequence solidifies what the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer suggested, aka a return to practical, street-level heroics. There seems to be no multiverse portals or Stark tech interventions. Peter responds to a city crime as a lone operative, making the arc a more grounded Spider-Man story.
Without access to Tony Stark’s resources, Peter also constructs his own suit. Cretton emphasizes in his annotations that “all of his tech needs to have been made by Peter.” The new Spider-Man suit reflects that constraint. Inspired by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s variants, it features “real fabric, seams, wrinkles.” Peter’s homemade fabricator, described as “a 3D printer on steroids — something that could be made by a kid genius w/ limited funds,” produces his gear.
Cretton directs from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases on July 31.
