Rebecca Romijn has outlined a significant shift for Una Chin-Riley in the upcoming season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, indicating that her character will take on more responsibilities. As the series progresses into Season 4, Una is set to move into a leadership position during off-ship assignments.
Discussing the character’s development at CCXP Mexico, Romijn explained that Una’s arc will emphasize greater independence and confidence. She said, “We get to see a much freer Una, who gets to lead missions starting in Season 4 and 5… It’s so exciting, it’s so fun.” The actor noted that Una requests greater involvement in on-planet assignments early in Season 4. “Una makes a request at the beginning of Season 4 for more time on-planet. And now that she is living her authentic self, she gets to lead these incredible missions,” she added.
The new direction for the character was highlighted during the presentation at CCXP Mexico, where cast members, including Ethan Peck, Celia Rose Gooding, and Paul Wesley, joined Romijn to promote the upcoming season. A teaser trailer shown at the event offered early glimpses of Una in action, including scenes that feature her alongside Captain Christopher Pike, played by Anson Mount.
Additional promotional images also show Una participating in on-ground missions with key crew members such as La’an Noonien-Singh, portrayed by Christina Chong, and Erica Ortegas, played by Melissa Navia. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 is scheduled to premiere on July 23 on Paramount+.
