“I thought you were different…” Tubi has revealed the official trailer for an indie thriller titled Stepfather, arriving to watch streaming on Tubi (for free!) starting in June later in the month. Yet another low budget, extra cheesy new thriller to watch online anytime – or skip entirely. A desperate man hunts for the perfect family, but when his new wife and daughters fear he may just be deranged, escaping him will have deadly consequences. The film relies on psychological tension, teasing mounting suspicion inside the home as Asia realizes the man she married is hiding deadly secrets. Stepfather stars Taye Diggs and Tamar Braxton in the main roles, with Kalani Jules, Jessica Jarrell, Janeline Hayes, Dante Brown, Troy Brookins, TJ Shaw, Koda Kalani Beschen, and Elizabeth Dantus. This is suspiciously similar to the other direct-to-VOD thriller The Step Daddy with an eerily similar premise about a naughty step dad. Huh. Not sure it will be any good.

This streaming thriller follows Darnell, played by Taye Diggs, a man obsessed with building the “perfect” family. After marrying Asia, co-starring Tamar Braxton as his new wife, he begins settling into life with her and her daughters. As the family grows closer, unsettling behavior begins surfacing, leading them to uncover a violent history connected to Darnell’s past relationships. Can they escape him? Stepfather is directed by American producer / writer / filmmaker Chris Stokes (aka Christopher B. Stokes), a former music exec / manager (founder of the record label the Ultimate Group in 1997) who turned to filmmaking instead – he has directed many films since 2004 including House Party 4, You Got Served, Somebody Help Me 1 & 2, Battlefield America, The Helpers, ‘Til Death Do Us Part, Running Out Of Time, Sacrifice, The Stepmother 1 & 2 & 3, Assistant, Best Friend, You’re Not Alone, Rock the Boat, Vicious Affair, Still Here, I Hate You to Death, Forever Us, The Stepdaughter, Snatched, Robbin, and Rock the Boat 1 & 2 previously. The screenplay is by Marques Houston & Chris Stokes. It’s produced by Footage Films Studios. Tubi debuts Stokes’ Stepfather film streaming on Tubi starting June 19th, 2026 this summer.
