Furthermore, the sequel’s domestic opening dwarfs the original 2006 film’s $27.5 million start, which would equate to roughly $48 million adjusted for inflation. The first Devil Wears Prada earned$124.7 million domestically and $326.5 million globally across its entire theatrical run. As a result, the sequel’s $233.6 million global debut puts it on pace to surpass the original’s worldwide total as early as next weekend.

Additionally, the $77 million domestic opening marks the highest-earning premiere in Meryl Streep’s career. However, her costars have headlined bigger openers elsewhere. Emily Blunt starred in Oppenheimer, Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises and Stanley Tucci in the Hunger Games films. Despite its $100 million production budget, the sequel has already positioned itself for profitability.

Meanwhile,The Devil Wears Prada 2lands at No. 7 on the global list of 2026’s highest-grossing films. It beat Scream 7, GOAT and Send Help, all of which had weeks-long head starts. Elsewhere, Michael held No. 2 domestically this weekend with $54 million in its second week. Its global total now stands at $423.9 million. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie took third place, adding $12 million domestically in its fifth week.
