*Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Fortune.*

Faced with the prospect of starting an all-out war with the Worrall family or angering her own husband, Amanda (Eleanor Tomlinson) is stuck in a sticky situation that nobody envies in The Fortune.
While waking up one day to find out that you’re set to be on the receiving end of a pretty hefty inheritance is plenty of people’s idea of a great day, Amanda is suddenly thrust into a tricky scenario as she not only has to make sense of it all, but also contend with a family that wants her gone – but what will they do to achieve that?
So far, the series has already left us on plenty of cliffhangers and we’ve had shock deaths and secret meetings, but how exactly did things pan out by the end of The Fortune? Read on for a full breakdown of the ending of the 5 drama.
The Fortune ending explained: What secrets does Amanda find out?

Not only is Amanda contending with the disappearance of her mother Linda (Paula Wilcox) from her care home but she’s also unable to contact her husband Jimmy (Matthew Lewis).
Confronting Sandy (Danielle Walters) about her secret meeting with Jimmy and fearing the worst, Sandy actually tells Amanda that Jimmy wanted to meet her to discuss Amanda not giving up the will. Jimmy wanted Sandy to put some pressure on Amanda to take the money – but why?
Sandy then tells Amanda that Jimmy said he’d spoken to someone that knows Amanda but couldn’t talk to anybody about it and wasn’t able to tell her about it. It’s clear the pair need to talk but with Amanda struggling to reach Jimmy, she’s at another loose end. Just when she starts thinking about what to do next, an anonymous text message comes through with a picture of her at the police station saying ‘no police’.
When she returns home with Luke, Amanda is getting increasingly worried as her mother’s disappearance is now the topic of the news and Jimmy still is nowhere to be found. Turning to the pile of photos she was sent, Amanda starts leafing through them for any kind of clue about her mother’s whereabouts and spots one of her parents by the sea, which is simply labelled as ‘happy place’.
No sooner than she looks at the photo then Amanda gets a call from Fiona (Rebecca Front), who has a “genuine” offer for her – an equal 50-50 split of the money between them both, completely discounting Anthony. But when Fiona hangs up the phone and walks over to her window, she spies the local taxi driver, Barry (Trevor Fox), on her property and he’s staring directly at her.
Back at her home, Amanda eventually gets into Jimmy’s laptop and finds that his last known location was 17 hour ago by the sea. She takes Luke to Sandy and then sets off to find Jimmy in her car. However, when she does, she’s met by Anthony (Callum Woodhouse) who is on a rampage after finding out about his own twisted family secrets. He’s there to warn Amanda about the true intentions of Fiona, not trusting her after he’s now found out that Boots (Stephen Tompkinson) is his biological father.
But his visit isn’t all that well-intentioned as he then starts threatening Amanda about her visit to Boots, knowing that he’s dead. Anthony tells Amanda to just give up the will, saying that she has until that night to decide.
Back at their estate, things only grow more tense for the Worrall’s as Fiona uncovers Anthony’s bloody shirt in his laundry pile. Asking him what he’s done, he remains aloof and just walks away.
Taking to the road, Amanda eventually comes to Jimmy’s last known location but can’t see him anywhere. Spotting some cranes in the distance that look like the ones in the photo of her parents, Amanda makes her way over. She stumbles upon an old fishing hut that seems to be the ‘happy place’ from the photo and when she ventures inside, finds her mother sleeping. But she’s soon interrupted by approaching footsteps and they turn out to be the mystery taxi driver, Barry, from the town.
He knows her name and suddenly, Linda awakes to say that it’s “lovely to have him back”, revealing that Barry’s actually Amanda’s father. Amanda struggles to make sense of it all as she’s believed her father was dead for all these years but he reveals he did what he thought was best, thinking he was giving them both a good life by leaving them.
Amanda thought Boots was trying to tell her that the Worrall’s had killed her father but Barry now stresses that he wanted Amanda to take the money for herself. “You were supposed to accept the will, get what’s yours,” he tells her.
But when Amanda presses him about whether he killed Boots, he’s none the wiser and it all proves too much for Amanda and she walks out. Coming out to speak to Amanda, her father explains that Martin (Denis Lawson) had taken his money and ruined him years prior. He also added that Martin was in love with Linda and so, had arranged for Boots to have Barry killed. Boots had gotten someone else to do the hit job but Amanda’s father had gotten wind of it and left a mannequin out instead, setting a trap to catch the hitman and kill him.
Linda had just believed that Barry had been paid off and left so Barry just decided to lay low, with the Worrall’s then telling Linda that he was dead. Why had he returned now though? Well, Barry reveals that he actually is dying and then tries to convince Amanda to leave Linda to stay there so she can die where she wants.
What happened to Jimmy?

Barry reveals that he was the man to approach Luke at the ice cream van and says that he just wanted his last moments to be dedicated to Linda, as well as ensuring that his daughter and grandchild got what they were owed by the Worrall family.
Barry didn’t want Amanda to know he’s alive but then reveals that he enlisted the help of Jimmy, who eventually walks out and apologises to Amanda for lying and knowing about Barry being alive.
Linda then begs Amanda to let her stay there and not go to die in a hospital, with Amanda having to honour what her parents want. Amanda says she’s going to resolve all of this and leaves the fishing hut, with Jimmy returning to Barry to tell him that whilst he thinks that Amanda is simply keeping the money she’s owed by the Worrall family, Amanda really just needed a father.
Does Amanda accept the money?

Driving to the Worrall estate, Amanda then gets a call from Laura (Nina Wadia) who informs her that Anthony is not Martin’s biological son and that she actually thinks he’s dangerous. Not listening to her advice to leave them alone, Amanda pulls up to their home for a confrontation.
Sitting inside is Anthony, who has been wielding a gun on his lap as a threat to Fiona. He carries it into the living room and there, Amanda says that the Worrall home is only what it is because of her father’s money, also telling them that Martin tried to have him killed.
Fiona is shocked to learn of this, clearly not knowing the truth. Amanda then confronts Anthony about the fact he killed Boots, but Anthony says there’s no body and no evidence. Just as he says so, Barry walks in as living, breathing proof.
Anthony points the gun at Barry and whilst Fiona believes Barry and Amanda, Anthony can’t and shouts about how he’s been left with nothing because of both Fiona and Martin. He then points the gun at Fiona, then at Barry who challenges him to shoot. Flicking between Fiona and Barry, Anthony then shocks everyone and points the gun at himself, letting off one fatal bullet.
Back at the fishing hut, Linda takes her last breaths with Jimmy. When Amanda and Barry return, they’re distraught that they weren’t there.
Some time later, we see Amanda return to Sandy’s to ask her friend for her job back, even though she’s accepted the money. Amanda tells Sandy that she let Fiona keep the house after suffering such loss and has put money aside for Luke’s future, but doesn’t exactly know what to do with mansions and the like.
“This is my happy place,” Amanda says to Sandy and is beaming at Jimmy, who is standing in his chef’s whites by the kitchen.
