With a trailer for BBC’s upcoming psychological thriller The Rapture having just been released, intrigue for the new series is at an all-time high.

It not only sees Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’s India Amarteifio take on a brand new leading role, but also puts Doctor Who’s Ruth Madeley front and centre as a forensic psychologist who’s quickly swept up in a story that may be pointing to something a lot more otherworldly.
The new trailer sees Madeley’s Dr Fox join a brand new hospital staff, where she meets Amarteifio’s Bethany, a teenager who seems to possess an ability to see the future – and may have even predicted meeting Dr Fox. Everyone believes that Bethany killed her mother, but did she?

What is The Rapture about?

Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Liz Jensen, The Rapture has been described as a “high-stakes thriller which crackles with danger”.
Written by Bryony Kimmings (Last Christmas) and Rebecca Manley (Berlin Noir), the five-part series has been filmed in Wales with the series synopsis reading: “Set in a heatwave, with protestors on the streets, forensic psychologist Gabs Fox (Madeley) starts a new job at a high-security psychiatric hospital where she meets 17-year-old Bethany Krall (Amarteifio).”
It continues: “Bethany was convicted of murdering her mother but claims she is innocent. She is estranged from her father Leonard (Hazeldine), who is the charismatic leader of an influential religious movement.
“Bethany tells Gabs that she has psychic powers and can predict the future – but what will it take for Gabs to believe her? And if Bethany didn’t kill her mother, then who did?”
The psychological thriller has also been directed by Eva Sigurđardóttir (Little Disasters) and Jennifer Perrott (Gentleman Jack).
