World Cup 2026 is set to be the biggest tournament ever.
The first since the expansion from 32 to 48 teams, this summer’s feast of football will feature a whopping 104 matches over 39 days. It is fitting, then, that it will play out in North America, where, famously, everything is bigger.
Canada, Mexico and the United States are sharing hosting duties, the first time three countries have done so, with the tournament spread across 16 cities – and four different time zones.
No new grounds have been built but some changes are being made, including installing grass pitches in place of artificial turf and expanding the capacity of the Toronto Stadium to 45,000.
