Following its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival back in January, Vertical has shared a poster and trailer for the upcoming release of The Weight, the historical drama from director Padraic McKinley.
Set in Oregon at the height of the Great Depression, the film centres on Samuel (Ethan Hawke), a man torn from his family and forced to work at a brutal prison camp, until a high-stakes proposition from warden Clancy (Russell Crowe) gives him the chance for an early release and to reunite with his young daughter if he is able to smuggle gold from a remote mine.
Joining Hawke and Crowe in the cast are Julia Jones, Austin Amelio, Avi Nash, and Sam Hazeldine. Watch the trailer below…

In Oregon in 1933, Samuel Murphy is torn from his daughter and sent to a brutal work camp. Warden Clancy tempts him with early release if he smuggles gold through deadly wilderness, but betrayal festers within the crew, and Murphy questions how far he’ll go to see his child again.
The Weight is set for release on September 18th.
