Uruguay and Saudi Arabia face off in their World Cup opener on Monday night, with the South American side looking to kickstart their tournament with a win.

Uruguay, who are managed by former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, finished fourth in their qualifying group behind Argentina, Equador and Colombia to secure their World Cup spot.
Bielsa’s side impressed in qualifying as they went unbeaten in 14 of their 18 outings but can Uruguay make a statement on the biggest stage this summer? They’ll fancy their chances of finishing in the top two in Group H given their opposition of Spain, Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde.

Uruguay have won the World Cup twice – in 1930 and 1950 – and while they reached the quarter-finals in 2018, they failed to get out of the group in 2022 in Qatar.
While Uruguay are looking to reach the round of 16 at least, Saudi Arabia face a tough task in getting out of the group. They’ll likely have to finish as one of the third-best qualifying teams behind Spain and Uruguay in Group H.
