We can all feel a bit overwhelmed when looking for something to watch in the world of streaming, so if you’re in need of some guidance, you’ve come to the right place.
This week, Molly Windsor leads a strong British cast in Netflix’s Unchosen, a thriller set among adherents to a fundamentalist Christian cult led by Mr Phillips (Christopher Eccleston). When an interloper finds their countryside commune, all hell breaks loose.
On the same streamer is season two of Beef, which has been reinvented as an anthology, shifting from road rage to class and generational conflict. Set at an exclusive country club, it stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan in a simmering, darkly comic clash drama.
New to Disney+ is The Testaments, the follow-up to The Handmaid’s Tale takes us back to Gilead, and a prestigious girls’ school that might just be an unlikely source of revolutionary fervour. One Battle After Another star Chase Infiniti features as a conflicted queen bee.
Over on Apple TV, Margo’s Got Money Troubles follows Margo (played by Elle Fanning) as she tries to generate income on the adult entertainment site OnlyFans in order to raise money for her newborn’s childcare. Based on the novel of the same name by Rufi Thorpe, the series was created by creator David E Kelley and stars his wife and Hollywood legend Michelle Pfeiffer.
For the film fans among you, there’s plenty to choose from. New to Prime Video is Crime 101, where Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth are the cop and robber on a collision course in a cracking Los Angeles-set crime thriller with more than a touch of Michael Mann’s Heat about it. Barry Keoghan, Halle Berry and Nick Nolte bring classy support.
Also available to stream is hit horror Weapons, a puzzling and disturbing case in which 17 children at a school – all from the same third-grade class – had mysteriously and inexplicably run away from their homes at precisely 2:17 one night. The film unfolds from the perspectives of six different locals in the town, following their overlapping stories as they deal with the disappearance and try to get to the bottom of it – with Josh Brolin, Julia Garner and Alden Ehrenreich among those to play major roles.
