*Warning: Spoilers ahead for House of the Dragon season 3 episode 2.*

Amid a fiery episode of House of the Dragon season 3, the City Watch, AKA the Goldcloaks, and their powerful commander Ser Luthor Largent, have had quite a spotlight shone on them.
The latest episode of the Game of Thrones spin-off finally saw Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) take her rightful place as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, with Matt Smith’s Daemon by her side.
But she certainly couldn’t do it alone. After marching into the Red Keep, Rhaenyra found herself supported by the soldiers of the City Watch with Commander Largent revealing he is still loyal to Daemon.
But what do we know about him?
Who is Ser Luthor Largent in House of the Dragon?
Ser Luthor Largent was a lowborn knight who worked his way up to become Commander of the City Watch. He commanded the Goldcloaks under the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and remained in his post when Aegon II Targaryen took the throne.
However, when Rhaenyra and Daemon returned to the Red Keep, Ser Luthor and the Goldcloaks turned on them, as Luthor remained loyal to Daemon.
Rhaenyra thanks Ser Luthor for his loyalty, who, in turn, thanks Daemon for originally giving him his gold cloak as a soldier of the City Watch.
Why is Ser Luthor Largent loyal to Daemon?
Ser Luthor’s loyalty dates back to when Daemon was the commander of the Goldcloaks, turning them from a disorganised force to a proper army and a force to be reckoned with. The Goldcloaks commander has never forgotten Daemon’s respect for them.
In George RR Martin’s book Fire and Blood, Ser Luthor is said to be about seven feet tall.

Who plays Ser Luthor Largent in House of the Dragon?
In House of the Dragon, Ser Luthor Largent is played by Tom Cullen.
The Welsh actor is also known for his roles as Anthony Foyle, Viscount Gillingham in Downton Abbey, Sir Landry in Knightfall, and Thomas Seymour in Becoming Elizabeth.

What happens to Ser Luthor Largent in Fire and Blood?
Warning: Spoilers for Fire & Blood – so possible spoilers for future episodes of House of the Dragon – ahead.
Ser Luthor is later blamed for the death of Helaena Targaryen, with some smallfolk believing that Rhaenyra ordered him to kill her.
Amid riots in the city, Ser Luthor attempts to disperse the crowds – but he and his Goldcloaks were attacked by thousands of rioters. Luthor is brutally killed by the crowds.
Ser Balon Byrch would succeed him as Commander of the City Watch.
