World Cups and heartbreak go hand in hand.

48 nations are in Canada, Mexico and the United States this summer but the nature of major tournaments is that 47 of them will suffer disappointment.

That has already started, with three of the teams that won’t make it past the group stages now confirmed – and more will follow suit this week.

16 will fall short of the round of 32 and a further 16 will head home after the first round of knock-out fixtures.

Eight more will perish in the last 16, four will suffer a quarter-final exit, and two will fall at the final hurdle.

There will be shocks and upsets along the way but who will be the first to be sent packing?

Which teams have been knocked out of World Cup 2026?

As of Monday 22 June, 3 teams have been knocked out of World Cup 2026.

16 of the 48 nations that qualified for this summer’s tournament will be heading home at the end of the group stages.

From there, the 32 remaining will be halved in each round of knockout fixtures until we have the two finalists.

Here are the teams that have been eliminated from World Cup 2026 at the time of writing.
