Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games is about to bring one of summer’s most bombastically unique anime premises to the small screen, with the ‘anime girls meets fighting games’ series already having made its debut — and the release dates for its remaining episodes are coming fast.

Based on Eri Ejima’s manga, the series follows Aya Mitsuki, a scholarship student at Kuromi Girls’ Academy who wants to become as elegant as her idol, Yorue Mio — only to discover that Mio is secretly a hardcore fighting game player. The anime is produced by Diomedéa, with Crunchyroll confirming it will stream the series worldwide, excluding Japan and China.

Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games follows Aya Mitsuki, a girl from an ordinary background who enrols at the refined Kuromi Girls’ Academy and tries to fit in among its elegant students. Her biggest inspiration is Yorue Mio, also known as ‘Shirayuri-sama’, who appears to be everything Aya wants to become.
That image changes when Aya catches Mio secretly playing fighting games in an empty classroom, despite games being banned at school. Things become even more complicated when Mio realises Aya is not a beginner either, kicking off an intense hidden rivalry.
As confirmed on the anime’s official site Street Fighter 6, which appears heavily in the show, is one of the actual collaborators, too. So, if you’re after a fighting game anime that’s truly faithful, this one might be it.
Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games will stream on Crunchyroll from Tuesday 7 July 2026.
