A newly shared behind-the-scenes image from Zack Snyder has reignited discussion around an abandoned idea tied to Wonder Woman’s past. The filmmaker posted a black-and-white photo connected to a deleted 1854 storyline, giving fans another look at a darker historical setting that never made it into the final DC films starring Gal Gadot.

Zack Snyder reminds us of Wonder Woman’s cut 1854 origin with new photo
Zack Snyder uploaded the image on Instagram, showing a group of warriors from different cultures standing together during what appeared to be a war-era sequence. One figure looked like a Sikh soldier wearing a turban, while another resembled a Native American warrior.
The director revealed the image was taken during the “Wonder Woman Crimea shoot” using his Leica Monochrom camera. In the caption, Snyder wrote, “Shot this on my Leica Monochrom during the Wonder Woman Crimea shoot—an original story unfolding through the lens. And these were her soldiers.”
The filmmaker had earlier shared another unreleased image tied to the same concept. That photo featured Diana surrounded by warriors from several backgrounds, including a Japanese soldier carrying a spear alongside Sikh and Native American fighters. Fans quickly filled social media with reactions, many wishing the idea had become a full project.

One user wrote, “Would’ve loved to see a Sikh warrior in WW,” while another posted, “Dude, I would give my right hand to see this Wonder Woman movie.”
Several fans also connected the photos to the wider DC franchise debate. Comments included, “We need Justice League 2 & 3” and “Imagine how much better the world would be if Warner had decided to make THIS movie instead of bringing down the DCEU with WW84.”
Gal Gadot first played Wonder Woman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before leading two solo movies. Patty Jenkins directed both Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984. The 2017 original, also starring Chris Pine, followed Diana leaving Themyscira during World War I and earned strong reviews, holding a 93% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Wonder Woman 1984, however, received a far more mixed response and currently sits at 57% on Rotten Tomatoes.
