A pair of hit ABC TV shows are coming back next year, with the company renewing two of its strongest comedies for new seasons.

What ABC comedies have been renewed for more seasons at ABC?
ABC has renewed both Scrubs and Shifting Gears for new seasons, with both shows set to return in 2027. According to a report from THR, both shows have done well in their ratings, with Shifting Gears being ABC’s most-watched comedy in linear ratings this season, averaging 5.4 million viewers on TV, with about 7 million viewers total when factoring in streaming. As for Scrubs, it was even more successful, premiering to 9 million cross-platform viewers and growing to 11 million across its first month out.
Shifting Gears stars Tim Allen, Kat Dennings, Seann William Scott, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, and more, and premiered in 2025. The series follows a gruff widower who runs an auto restoration shop and takes in his estranged daughter and two grandchildren. The series is created by Julie Thacker Scully and Mike Scully, with Michelle Nader serving as showrunner.
Scrubs is a revival of the original hit comedy and is led by returning starsZach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, and John C. McGinley, all of whom will step back into their iconic roles as doctors and nurses for the show.
The revival is created and executive-produced by Bill Lawrence of Doozer Productions, with Aseem Batra set as the reboot’s showrunner. In addition to leading the cast, Braff, Faison, and Chalke are also serving as executive producers alongside Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer for Doozer Productions and Batra. It is a production by 20th Television.
