Akshay Kumar recently looked back at Waqt: The Race Against Time and praised filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah for creating a film centred on the bond between a father and son. The 2005 family drama, which starred Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar in lead roles, continues to be remembered for its emotional storyline and performances.

During an interview, Akshay Kumar spoke about the film and highlighted its family appeal. Recalling the project, he said, “Vipul ne ek aur film bohat achi banayi thi..Mujhe lagta hai woh film har bete ko apne baap ke saath aur har baap ko apne bete ke saath dekhni chahiye (Vipul made another very good film. I feel every son should watch that film with his father, and every father should watch it with his son)”. It’s a hundred percent sure film to go and watch with your son.”

Directed and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, Waqt: The Race Against Time featured an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, Shefali Shah, Rajpal Yadav and Boman Irani. The film combined family drama, humour and emotional moments, which helped it connect with audiences during its theatrical run.

The story followed Ishwar Chandra Thakur, played by Amitabh Bachchan, a successful businessman who adopts a strict approach with his son Aditya Thakur, played by Akshay Kumar, in an attempt to prepare him for life’s responsibilities. Over the years, the film has remained a notable title in the actor-director collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Vipul Shah.

Meanwhile, Vipul Amrutlal Shah is preparing a new slate of projects under his production banner Sunshine Pictures. Among the upcoming films is Governor, a political thriller headlined by Manoj Bajpayee. The project is expected to explore a tense and dramatic narrative space.

Another title in development is Hisaab, a heist drama that will be directed by Shah himself. The film stars Jaideep Ahlawat and Shefali Shah in key roles. Both projects are being co-produced by Aashin A Shah.

With these announcements, Vipul Shah appears set to continue working across different genres, from political thrillers to crime dramas. At the same time, Akshay Kumar’s recent comments have brought renewed attention to Waqt: The Race Against Time, a film that still resonates with viewers for its family-centric theme.
