Pitch PerfectandA Simple Favorstar Anna Kendrick is returning to the director’s chair to adapt Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novelThe Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugofor Netflix.

Per Deadline, Kendrick will direct from a script by Liz Tigelaar and Francesca Sloane. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo follows a “young journalist’s long awaited interview with Evelyn Hugo, an aging Hollywood starlet, who pulls back the curtain on her seven marriages, and as she tells tales of Hollywood scandals, betrayals, and woe, she unveils shocking truths about her own life and the lives of everyone around her.”
This project will be Kendrick’s second time directing after her 2023 serial killer thrillerWoman of the Hour, which Netflix acquired after its TIFF premiere that year.Evelyn Hugowill be produced by Liza Chasin for 3Dot Productions, Brad Mendelsohn for Circle Management + Productions and David Hinojosa with Jenkins Reid executive producing.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugohas become a bestseller among Reid’s novels ,with Netflix having acquired the rights to it in 2022. The streamer has tried developing the project since, even hiring Leslye Headland and Maggie Betts to direct at separate points, but those plans fell through. With Kendrick on board to direct again, we’ll have to wait and see if development will go further this time around.
