Soap fans – there’s some bad news. Neither Coronation Street nor Emmerdale will air tonight (Wednesday 24 June).

This is, of course, due to the FIFA World Cup 2026. Despite the footy kicking our serial dramas off their usual pitch every single tournament, it still becomes a chore to try to work out when they’re next on air.
Luckily, Radio Times has all of the answers.
In January, a soap “power hour” – with both shows airing 30-minute instalments between 8pm and 9pm – was launched by ITV to provide consistency for viewers. Despite that, the schedules continue to be rocked.
In their place tonight, the broadcaster will air coverage of the Switzerland v Canada game, hosted by Mark Pougatch. Kick off is at 8pm, though we’ll head to the BC Place Vancouver in Canada an hour earlier.

Fear not, however, as we haven’t got long to wait for our next slice of cobbles and Dales action.
Tomorrow (Thursday 25 June), hour-long episodes will air from 8pm on ITV1.
In Emmerdale, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) comes clean to husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) about her ongoing turmoil.
Meanwhile, amid brother Lewis Barton’s (Bradley Riches) kidnapping ordeal, Ross (Michael Parr) meets with his abductor to try to secure his freedom.
Over in Weatherfield, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) breaks down in tears and confesses that he’s never felt so lonely following an explosive row with Theo Silverton’s (James Cartwright) killer Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien).

George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) and Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) insist he should move back into No. 11. In the Rovers, Sarah drowns her sorrows.
There won’t be any soaps the following day, Friday 26 June, as ITV airs Norway v France – all the action from the final match in Group I for both teams, held at Boston Stadium in the USA.
Emmerdale usually airs weeknights at 8pm and Coronation Street usually airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1. Both can be streamed from 7am that day on ITVX.
