Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney)
When is Cassie Plummer leaving? Summer 2026.
Actress Claire Sweeney has confirmed that she will be leaving the role of Tyrone’s scheming mother and Steve’s girlfriend, Cassie Plummer, in the coming months.
Sweeney will be leaving the show to join the cast of the UK and Ireland tour of Annie to play Miss Hannigan.
Radio Times understands that ITV bosses have known about the actress’s departure from the soap for a while now and that they already have a big storyline planned for the character’s exit.
A Coronation Street spokesperson said: “We wish Claire every success playing Miss Hannigan and congratulate her on being offered a role she has long wanted to play.
“Cassie will be on the cobbles until the summer during which time she will continue to make her presence felt in Weatherfield leading up to a great exit storyline.”

Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney)
When is Debbie Webster leaving? 2027.
Actress Sue Devaney is being written out of the show as her fan-favourite character Debbie Webster is due to be killed off in a long-running dementia storyline.
Devaney first appeared as 15-year-old Debbie Webster and starred in the role for one year before returning to the soap in 2019, and has been a main cast member since 2020.
A source told Metro: “It’s one of the show’s biggest storylines of the year, and a real chance for Sue to finally get her time in the spotlight – it will just be devastating for fans that it will effectively be her final storyline.”

They added: “It’s one of many major storylines new boss Kate Brooks has in the bag, and there will not be a dry eye in the house.
“There is no doubt in the Corrie family that she will give the performance of a lifetime and make Debbie’s exit one to remember for years.”
The report also revealed that the character of Debbie was expected to stay in the show beyond 2025 to complete the long-running storyline, so there is plenty of Debbie still to come on-screen.
The storyline was later confirmed by ITV and actress Sue Devaney, who revealed in June 2025 that she would still be on the soap until at least 2027.
