Actor Naga Chaitanya has secured significant relief from the Delhi High Court in a case concerning the alleged misuse of his identity across various online platforms. The court has passed an interim order protecting the actor’s personality rights and directing the removal of objectionable content, including AI-generated images, pornographic material, and other unauthorised uses of his name and likeness.

Delhi High Court grants relief to Naga Chaitanya; orders removal of AI-generated, pornographic and defamatory content
The legal action was initiated by the actor after he raised concerns over the circulation of content that allegedly exploited his identity without permission. The petition highlighted several instances where his name, image, voice, and likeness were being used across digital platforms in a manner that could potentially harm his reputation and mislead the public.
According to submissions made before the court, multiple websites were allegedly categorising or tagging pornographic content using Naga Chaitanya’s name. The actor’s legal team argued that such content was causing serious damage to his public image and could create false impressions among viewers.
The petition also pointed to the unauthorised sale of merchandise featuring the actor’s image and identity. In addition, concerns were raised over the proliferation of AI-generated content, misleading videos, and online material that allegedly made false claims about his personal life, including allegations linked to his past marriage.
Hearing the matter, Justice Jyoti Singh observed that Naga Chaitanya enjoys a well-established public reputation and is entitled to safeguard his personality and publicity rights from unauthorised commercial exploitation. The court noted that the circulation of objectionable and misleading content had the potential to cause harm to the actor’s image and could lead audiences to believe fabricated narratives.
Recognising the urgency of the issue, the court granted interim protection and directed the removal of the disputed content from relevant online platforms. It also restrained individuals and entities from using the actor’s name, image, likeness, or other identifying attributes for commercial purposes without obtaining prior consent.
The order further prevents third parties from manufacturing, marketing, or selling merchandise featuring the actor’s identity without authorisation.
The latest development marks an important step in addressing concerns surrounding the misuse of celebrity identities in the digital age, particularly amid the growing prevalence of artificial intelligence-generated content. For Naga Chaitanya, the court’s intervention provides interim protection while the matter continues to be examined through legal proceedings.
