“I will expose everything. The crimes, all of it.” Netflix has unveiled their full official trailer for the thriller series Human Vapor, a frightening new take on this sci-fi thriller classic from Toho Studios. Ready for streaming worldwide in July this summer season. From the creators behind Train to Busan and the recent “Gannibal” series comes a grounded reimagining of Toho’s legendary classic. From Netflix Japan, Human Vapor is a sci-fi thriller series following a mysterious killer who can transform into gas and slip through any barrier. As fear spreads across society, a detective and relentless reporter race to stop an unstoppable force that seems to mock the limits of human control. The original is a 1960 film called The Human Vapor made by Gojira director Ishirô Honda. This modern update is a much more chilling version, more of a serial killer thriller than superhero story, though has vibes of both genres. The series stars Shun Oguri, Yu Aoi, Suzu Hirose, Kento Hayashi, UTA, and Yutaka Takenouchi. It looks really creative & actually quite freaky with this gas guy and his plans to kill people and cause mayhem. Intense! Check out the new footage below.

“Fear has no form.” The world recoils in shock when a person suddenly swells and explodes on live TV. The culprit behind this unprecedented murder is the “Human Vapor” — a mysterious man who can transform his body into gas and slip through any barrier. He announces his killings in advance and carries them out, seemingly mocking the authorities as they struggle to close in on him. With each new incident, he corrodes society with a formless, pervasive fear. The Human Vapor is new series directed by Japanese filmmaker Shinzo Katayama, director of Siblings of the Cape, Missing, “The Hovering Blade”, and “Gannibal” most recently. The screenplay is written by Yeon Sang-ho & Ryu Yong-jae. Produced by Sokichi Onoda, Yoomin Hailey Yang. Based on The Human Vapor film – directed by Ishiro Honda & written by Takeshi Kimura. Made by Toho Studios in association with WowPoint. Netflix debuts Katayama’s new Human Vapor thriller series streaming on Netflix worldwide starring July 2nd, 2026 this summer.
