Emmerdale has cast Waterloo Road star Jason Done in a new role.

The actor was one of the longest-serving characters on the BBC drama, playing much-loved English teacher Tom Clarkson from the first season up until the eighth season in 2013.

A spokesperson for ITV confirmed to Radio Times that Done will be playing a guest character called Steve on the ITV soap.

Meanwhile, The Sun has reported that Done is set to play a new villain with a surprising connection to the village.

A source told the publication: “This is a huge coup for Emmerdale. They’ve had massive success with other soap’s stars joining the cast and the hope is that Jason will be another hit.”

The source added: “Jason’s character is a new villain with a surprising connection to the village.”

Done’s character in Waterloo Road saw a dramatic end after he plunged to his death from the school roof while attempting to talk tearaway Kyle Stack down from a precarious position, leaving fans devastated.
