Kriti Sanon has opened up about the struggles and uncertainty she faced during the early years of her Bollywood journey, revealing that there was a phase when she often came close to landing roles that eventually went to star kids. In a recent conversation with GQ India, the actress reflected on her career path before Mimi became a turning point and earned her the National Award for Best Actress.

Kriti Sanon recalls losing roles to star kids before Mimi changed her career: “I have earned every opportunity”
Speaking candidly about the challenges of navigating the industry without a film background, Kriti admitted that there were moments of frustration when she felt capable of doing more but lacked the right opportunities.
“Before Mimi, I went through phases of frustration… wanting to do more, knowing I was capable of more, but lacked opportunities. There were roles I came very close to that eventually went to star kids, something that was beyond my control,” Kriti said.
The actress further explained how uncertainty becomes a constant reality for outsiders trying to establish themselves in the film industry.
“When you don’t come from a film background, there’s a great amount of uncertainty you have to deal with. It has been a process of gradual growth, with me taking risks and making more intentional choices. I have earned every opportunity; nothing has been handed to me,” she added.
Kriti also reflected on some of the mistakes she made during her journey. According to the actress, there was a time when she chose projects based on their perceived importance rather than the depth they offered her as a performer.
“I have also made mistakes, listening to external voices and taking on projects because they seemed significant, even when I knew they did not offer much for me as an actor,” she shared.
The actress admitted that there was a difficult phase when several things were not working professionally, leaving her confused about the direction of her career. However, she now views that period as an important learning experience.
“There was a phase where nothing was working, and it felt confusing. However, I am grateful for that period, because it gave me clarity on what I do not want to pursue. Failures teach you far more than success does,” Kriti stated.
She concluded with a reflection on balancing success and setbacks, saying, “One simply has to ensure that success does not go to one’s head, and failure does not weigh on one’s heart.”
Speaking of the professional front, Kriti will be next seen in Cocktail 2, co-starring Rashmika Mandanna and Shahid Kapoor. The film is scheduled to release on June 19, 2026.
