Production has now begun onRomy & Michele 2, the sequel to the 1997 cult comedyRomy & Michele’s High School Reunion, with Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino reprising their iconic roles.
Romy & Michelefocused on Sorvino and Kudrow’s Romy White and Michele Weinberger respectively, two close friends who have not achieved much in their lives and make up lies to impress their old classmates as they head to their classes’ 10th anniversary reunion.
Plot details for the sequel are under wraps, but Kudrow and Sorvino shared an image teasing the film on Instagram showing off part of Romy and Michele’s updated eccentric fashion with the caption ‘The reunion you’ve been waiting for!’ Romy & Michele 2 will also feature Alan Cumming and Julia Campbell returning from the original to reprise their roles with Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel,Breckin Meyer,Patrick Warburtonand Nathan Lee Grahamalso joining the cast.
The original’s costume designer Mona May is also returning to the sequel to design the new styles for Romy and Michele in their late adulthood. “I’m so excited to be a part of this amazing project to keep the DNA of the characters and design the fashions to be as fun and fabulous as the original film,” she said. “Romy and Michele are forever fashionistas, and I’m so excited to be working with Lisa and Mira again.”
Romy & Michele 2will be directed by David Mirkin from a script by Robin Schiff, both of whom are also returning from the original. It will be released as a Hulu original on the streaming service in 2027.
