Mortal Kombat II is expected to draw strong box office numbers worldwide. The sequel is expected to have a solid debut across theaters in both North America and international markets. New reports have also revealed the film’s projected opening weekend numbers.

Mortal Kombat 2 could have a $80 million global box office opening
Mortal Kombat II is heading into theaters with strong early box office projections. New industry report points toward a worldwide opening that could reach between $70 million and $80 million. The sequel is expected to perform strongly in both domestic and international markets.
According to Variety, the sequel is currently expected to earn between $40 million and $45 million from approximately 3,400 North American theaters during its opening frame. However, Warner Bros. is forecasting a slightly lower figure closer to $35 million. The international market is also expected to contribute heavily to the launch, with overseas earnings projected to surpass $30 million. This would place the film’s global launch within the projected $70 million to $80 million range.
The sequel is also entering a competitive box office frame alongside The Devil Wears Prada 2, which is expected to continue performing strongly during its second weekend. Despite the close race, industry analysts reportedly believe both films could exceed current projections depending on audience response.
The sequel was reportedly produced on a larger scale, with a budget of around $80 million compared to the first film’s $55 million cost. The original Mortal Kombat was released in April 2021 during the pandemic, when Warner Bros. was simultaneously debuting films in theaters and on HBO Max. Even under those circumstances, the adaptation earned more than $42 million domestically and around $84 million worldwide.
Simon McQuoid returned to direct Mortal Kombat II, which is scheduled to be released on May 8, 2026.
