Scarlett Johansson has added to her already busy 2026 filming schedule by signing on to star in Ari Aster’s next film, Scapegoat.
Already set for a starring role in Mike Flanagan’s Exorcist film for Universal, and with shooting set to get underway on Matt Reeves long-awaited sequel to The Batman, Deadline has revealed that two-time Oscar nominee will star in Ari Aster’s latest.
Written and directed by the Hereditary and Eddington filmmaker, Scapegoat will be his fifth feature, once again be distributed by A24. Aster will produce with his partner Lars Knudsen under their Square Peg banner. As is the case with most of his projects, plot details are scarce.

This time last year Aster’s Eddington bowed at Cannes to a mixed reception, and audiences didn’t exactly flock to the cinema when it was released later that year, with the Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal pandemic drama limping to only $13 million at the worldwide box-office.
On the other hand, Johansson is coming off the back of making her directorial debut with Eleanor the Great (read our review here), as well as headlining Universal’s $850 million grossing summer blockbuster Jurassic World: Rebirth.
