Season 2 of an anime series based on a highly popular action video game franchise will premiere on Netflix very soon. The first season was incredibly successful for the streamer in terms of both viewership and critical acclaim.

Devil May Cry Season 2 arrives on Netflix next month

Devil May Cry Season 2 will become available to stream on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The streaming giant announced the date with a teaser last month. Similar to Season 1, it will have eight episodes, all of which are expected to be released on the same day.

The series is based on Hideki Kamiya’s characters from Capcom’s hack-and-slash video game series of the same name. Adi Shankar, known for Castlevania and Castlevania: Nocturne, serves as the showrunner. Meanwhile, Alex Larsen developed and co-wrote the show.

In an interview with IGN, Shankar teased the scope of the upcoming season. “Season 2 is just way, way, way bigger in terms of scope and scale,” he said. “So it’s the difference between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight… And the tone is just completely different on top of that. The tone is very, very different, so it cuts deeper.”

The story follows a flamboyant demon hunter named Dante, the half-demon son of the dark knight Sparda. In Season 1, Dante takes on a dangerous job to deal with the supernatural threats that pose a danger to the modern world. Alongside Mary, he confronts White Rabbit, who wants to use the Sword of Sparda to break the barrier between Hell and Earth.

Season 1 ended on a major cliffhanger after Dante and Lady defeated the White Rabbit. Later, when Dante asked Mary to join him in the search for his long‑lost twin brother, Vergil, she imprisoned him instead in a Darkcom cryo‑prison. Meanwhile, Baines used the portal device to invade Hell.

Devil May Cry Season 1 reportedly witnessed 5.3 million viewers in just three days (via Crunchyroll). On the ratings front, it currently has a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
