“When I die, I’ll take you to Hell with me!” AMC has revealed a new official trailer for the 4K re-release and celebration of the classic Japanese anime Ninja Scroll, originally released in 1993 in Japan. Set in the age of samurai during the Edo period of feudal Japan, written & directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Ninja Scroll is now considered a truly seminal work in anime filmmaking. This premiered at Berlinale earlier this year and will be out in US theaters in October this fall –for just a few nights only. A vagabond swordsman is aided by a kunoichi and a spy in battling a demonic clan of killers led by a ghost from his past, bent on overthrowing the Tokugawa Shogunate. Featuring the voices of Emi Shinohara, Kôichi Yamadera, Takeshi Aono, Daisuke Gōri, Toshihiko Seki. This 4K restoration of Ninja Scroll was produced by AMC Global Media’s Sentai under the supervision of Director Yoshiaki Kawajiri. The digital update was a painstaking restoration and remastering of the movie — a meticulous process that involved a 4K scan of the original 35mm negative, then repairing any damage and color correction. This is looking pristine! A must see big screen experience.
Here’s the new trailer (+ poster) for the 4K re-release of Yoshiaki Kawajiri’s Ninja Scroll, from YouTube:

When Jubei (voiced by Kôichi Yamadera) saves a young ninja woman from the unthinkable, he assumes that’s the end of it. To his surprise, it’s only just the beginning. Together, the two go on to investigate the mysterious deaths of an entire village which uncovers a conspiracy of demonic proportions! Getting closer to the truth, the demonic forces will stop at nothing to silence Jubei and his companion for good! Ninja Scroll, also known as 獣兵衛忍風帖 in Japanese, is written and directed by Japanese animation filmmaker Yoshiaki Kawajiri, his third movie at the time after the “Cyber City Oedo 808” series and before Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust in 2000. Produced by Masao Maruyama. Made by Animate Film and first released by Tokyo Theatres Company. Ninja Scroll first opened in Japan in theateres in June 1993, but it didn’t show up in the US until 1995 a few years later only direct-to-video. This 4K restoration premiered at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival. AMC will re-release Kawajiri’s Ninja Scroll movie in 4K in US theaters on October 4th, 5th & 7th, 2026 this fall.
