“You see anything that looks like me – don’t go near it.” Neon has revealed the first official trailer for the acclaimed indie horror film titled Leviticus, another big breakout from the Midnight selection at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. It later went on to also screen at SXSW, Overlook, New Directors/New Film, and will open in US theaters starting in June. This Australian LGBTQ indie horror feature is about two teenage boys who must escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most—each other. This has some of the best reviews from Sundance, saying: “Leviticus is a heart-wrenching tale of queer love, small-town hate, and an unstoppable demonic force.” Keep an eye out for it this summer as one of the top indie horror films to watch. Sundance adds: “Joe Bird and Stacy Clausen tenderly embody Naim and Ryan, magnetically attracted teens coming into their sexuality, yet facing physical and spiritual violence at every bend.” Starring Joe Bird (from Talk to Me) & Stacy Clausen, with Mia Wasikowska, Ewen Leslie, Nicholas Hope, Jeremy Blewitt, Davida McKenzie, Edwina Wren. This reminds me of It Follows but with its own unique sensibilities. It’s a superb trailer – certainly makes me want to watch.
Here’s the first official trailer (+ poster) for Adrian Chiarella’s horror film Leviticus, direct from YouTube:

Original intro via Sundance: “Two star-crossed teenage boys must escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most — each other. A haunting and sensitive feature directorial debut from writer-director Adrian Chiarella, Leviticus promises a new, poignant entry into the canon of coming-of-age horror. An isolated Australian small town hosts the evils of religious fanaticism and its consequences for queer youth, creating an atmosphere that’s chilling and near-claustrophobic.” Leviticus is written and directed by the up-and-coming Australian filmmaker Adrian Chiarella, making his first feature film after a few shorts and episodes of the series “Totally Completely Fine” and “Five Bedrooms” previously. Produced by Kristina Ceyton, Samantha Jennings, Hannah Ngo. This initially premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year in the Midnight section and it also played at the SXSW Film Festival. Neon debuts Chiarella’s Leviticus horror film in select US theaters starting on June 19th, 2026 coming up. Look scary?
