“We all have to adapt…” Mubi has unveiled the first official UK trailer for a Scottish film titled The Fall of Sir Douglas Weatherford, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Seán Dunn. This already premiered at the 2026 Rotterdam Film Festival earlier in the year, and it also showed at the Göteborg and San Francisco Film Festivals this year. BAFTA nominated Scottish screen legend Peter Mullan stars in this offbeat, darkly funny character study about a man struggling to find his place in the contemporary world. Mullan plays Kenneth, who works as a tour guide dressing up as the town’s most notable historical figure, Sir Douglas Weatherford. Kenneth proudly claims as his ancestor and delivers an exuberant performance daily. When the village becomes the base of a big-budget fantasy TV show (an obvious “Game of Thrones” riff), his obsession with the show’s lead actor fuels a tragic downward spiral. Disregarding traditions, he’s reduced to a triviality, and ends up in a downfall witnessed by his daughter Anna. The cast includes Gayle Rankin, Jakob Oftebro, Sid Sagar, and Lewis MacDougall. It’s set for a UK release in theaters there in June, but has no US release confirmed yet. This looks pretty good – I’m always up for a Scottish comedy.
Here’s the official trailer for Seán Dunn’s film The Fall of Sir Douglas Weatherford, from YouTube:

Sir Douglas Weatherford, an 18th-century inventor & philosopher, is the most famous son of Arberloch. This unassuming village has a visitors’ centre dedicated to him, where Kenneth (Peter Mullan) works as a tour guide, flamboyantly dressed as Sir Douglas himself. He feels so close to Arberloch’s solitary historical claim that he now speaks of Weatherford almost as a relative. Which, in so many ways, is bad enough. But when a television crew arrives to shoot scenes for a fantasy series with the rather enchanting title The White Stag of Emberfell, Sir Douglas is reduced to a triviality. With the show’s exuberantly costumed fan base descending on Arberloch and the production spending money on a scale villagers could scarcely imagine, Kenneth’s world begins to collapse. The Fall of Sir Douglas Weatherford is written and directed by Scottish filmmaker Seán Dunn, making his feature directorial debut following a few other short films previously. Produced by Alex Polunin, Scott Macaulay, Jennifer Monks. This initially premiered at the 2026 Rotterdam Film Festival earlier this year. Mubi debuts Dunn’s The Fall of Sir Douglas Weatherford film in UK cinemas starting June 12th, 2026 coming up this summer. No US release is set yet. Who’s interested?
