As is often the case with dramas from 5, The Fortune is set to be another riveting ride towards the truth as Amanda (Eleanor Tomlinson) struggles to make sense of her mysterious new inheritance.

When she’s approached one day by a lawyer while working in the café, she’s soon set on quite a whirlwind of events as she finds out that a successful businessman named Martin (Denis Lawson) has died and left his entire estate to her.
But with no idea who he is and why she’s been given such a life-changing sum of money, things soon start to take on a darker note as she comes up against his angry wife (Rebecca Front) and son (Callum Woodhouse).
The psychological thriller only continues to throw up all kinds of plot twists as each episode pretty much ends on a cliffhanger, with the finale set to be another episode that viewers won’t be able to predict.

When asked by Radio Times whether she was able to predict the ending, series star Tomlinson revealed: “I wasn’t and that’s what I liked about the script, is that it was a page turner.”
She went on: “At the end as well, one of the endings I didn’t like. So, I spoke to the writer and the director about it… it just felt like a departure from Amanda for me. So, I was able to have a real input in it as well, which I so appreciated and was so interesting.
“Similarly throughout the show as well, there were aspects of the way that Amanda speaks and what have you – and they just gave me free reign to really embody her and make her who I wanted to be.
“So it was just a really amazing and creative experience working with that team, bringing it alive. I had no idea what was going to happen at the end. I think that’s always fun so hopefully, that comes across in in the show.”

The rest of the cast also includes Rebecca Front (The Thick of It), Stephen Tompkinson (DCI Banks), Paula Wilcox (Trying), Danielle Walters (Chewing Gum) and Denis Lawson (Bleak House).
